Genesis Diez is located in Manaedero, BC Mexico, just south of Ensenada and was co-founded by Greg and Ken Amstutz in 1991. This non-profit organization has been loving and serving the Mexican community ever since. For over 20 years, Genesis Diez has reached out to migrant, orphaned, and disabled children along with the indigenous families residing in the area.
Ongoing programs include “Into School,” “Food and Prayer,” and “Summer Camp for Orphanages.” “into School” is a program that reaches out to the children of migrant farm workers to assist in schooling, tutoring, and meal assistance. “Food and Prayer” is an outreach that builds relationships with destitute families by meeting their spirtual needs and physical needs (such as food, clothing, medical and legal services). Genesis Diez also operates a summer camp program that allows children living in orphanages throughout Baja and mainland Mexico to have a week of camp. This happens by bringing volunteer groups from the United States together with their staff and joining them with the children for a week of fun activities and enriching experiences. Another program that is near and dear to the hearts of Genesis Diez centers around fulltime care for terminally ill children who have been abandoned.
Since its inception, Genesis Diez has operated out of tents, rented office space and makeshift shelters for its staff and volunteers. Finally, the ministry was able to purchase a plot of land that was centrally located to the community they serve. Greg Amstutz and his wife Patti envisioned that on that piece of property would one day stand a permanent structure that would serve as a “centralized operating hub” for their ministry. The complex would be called “Puerta Hermosa” (Beautiful Gate) and house offices, 2 long term missionary apartments, volunteer team lodging, food distribution warehouse, housing and tgreatment center for terminally ill children and community room for medical/dental clinics, parenting classes and physical therapy sessions.
An encounter with Strong Tower Ministries has led to a partnership in the building of this facility. Construction began in March of 2013 and we are now entering into our third and final phase. There are plenty of opportunities for you to get involved which include providing skilled and unskilled labor, financial donations and material donations. As of December 2014, we are $30,000 away from the project being fully funded. With funding and continued material/volunteer labor donations, we should celebrate Puerta Hermosa’s grand opening Summer of 2016.
