“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ The King will reply, I tell you the truth, whatever you did for the one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 35-36, 40 (NIV)
Since 2006, Strong Tower Ministries has been assisting ministries that are effectively reaching, rescuing, and transforming the lives of children throughout the northern region of Baja California, Mexico. Ongoing support for these ministries has always been a challenge, but starting in 2008, the task of providing basic needs to the children they served became extremely difficult due to events centered around things like economic issues, threats of violent crime, and health concerns over the outbreak of the “swine flu”. Unemployment in some areas of the region grew to almost 50 percent, which hampered support from the local communities and serving trips from across the border from church groups and various organizations curtailed sharply. .All of these factors left many of these ministries having to deal with severe food, clothing, and medical aid shortages.
Beginning in the spring of 2009, STM committed to become a part of the solution to this problem. During that year, partnerships were established with other organizations in the United States such as Hilarious Givers, Club Dust, Corazon de Vida, Convoy of Hope, Gleanings, Global Aid Network, the Connection Church, Feed My Starving Children, Saddleback Church, and Children’s Hunger Fund. Roads were then established with Christian organizations and churches within Baja, equipping them to effectively distribute donations to churches, orphanages, schools, and entire communities throughout the region. This resulted in over 500,000 pounds of food, clothing, medical, and basic needs supplies being distributed to ministries who are actively changing the lives of thousands of children and families. In every situation, spiritual as well as physical needs were met.
Realizing that there is more work to be done, our ministry has formalized these efforts into an official project named the Baja Survival Needs Distribution Project. We invite you to join us in 2010 as the effort continues. There are serving opportunities both locally and in Mexico associated with this project that include sorting and distribution from locations in Santa Ana and San Diego, procurement, connecting with local churches, organizations, and orphanages in Mexico, and helping to transport and distribute survival items.
Volunteers are needed to transport items across the border to over 40 orphanages, schools, and churches. You provide the vehicle and gas, your time, and a willing heart, and we will provide some much needed items for you to deliver. Pick up locations are located both in the San Diego and Orange County areas. What a great way to connect your friends or family into a one day serving trip while making friends with a group of needy children or families!
Volunteers are needed from time to time to help sort and package food and other items bound for Baja. This usually happens on Saturdays and times vary so be sure to check the CALENDAR section of the website and add yourself to our email list to keep up to date on serving opportunities.
Food and Clothing donations are needed and tax deductible receipts are provided. Volunteers are needed to donate some time helping procure donations and establish relationships with local businesses.
Spanish Bibles are always needed.
Contacts are needed to purchase bulk food at or below food bank prices. We are looking for closed coded (near expiration), distressed, or salvage foods.
